Gold Cup Festival 2017 – It’s not just about the horses…

2017 is my third year attending the Gold Cup Festival in Cheltenham, concentrating not on the racing, but on photographing the hospitality and what happens behind the scenes. It’s always an incredible week, the food, the venues, the setup and organisation that goes into catering for in excess of 50,000 people per day always amazes me.

During the festival, I walked a total of 36 miles between various restaurants and bars and climbed 133 flights of stairs (which is nothing compared with some of the staff working the event) and shot around 3000 images.

Here are just a few of them….and not a horse in sight (well, maybe a couple)!

    Hi Simon!
Your photographs looks fantastic! You have really captured the excitement of the gold cup festival in your images. I work at the racecourse, specifically in the panoramic restaurant. I’m not sure that I’ll be returning next season so I wonder if you’d be able to share with me or send me any photographs you have of the panoramic restaurant from the gold cup?
I would be most grateful if so!
Thanks very much and keep up the good work!
    Tom
